HOW TO TINT
PREPARING THE LENS Clean the lens before tinting: a well-degreased lens guarantees rapid and uniform colouring over the entire surface.
Slowly immerse the lens into the hot tint bath: do not rush as a sudden temperature change may affect the lens surface.
Tint the pre-shaped corrective lenses to avoid reflections on the edges. Keep the temperature at 92°-95°C for CR39 lenses or at 80°-85°C for polycarbonate.
TINTING
Slowly immerse the lens with the lens holder into the hot tinting bath to avoid splashing and lens strain.
WHY YOU SHOULD NOT TINT AT A LOWER TEMPERATURE THAN THAT INDICATED The molecules of CR 39 lenses bond with the dye over 92°C, of polycarbonate lenses over 80°-85°C. At a lower temperature, the dyeing cycle is longer and it is difficult to obtain dark tints. Furthermore, the dyes stabilize around the recommended temperatures and, at lower temperatures, they alter the tone. WHY YOU SHOULD NOT TINT AT A HIGHER TEMPERATURE THAN THAT INDICATED At a higher temperature, the water boils and evaporates. The following drawbacks occur: • crystallizing dye change • colour alteration due to excessive temperature • fume saturated working area • possible softening of the lens may require more careful handling.
HOW TO OBTAIN GRADIENT LENSES If you do not have a gradient unit, you can colour it by hand. Immerse the pair of lenses in the colour with the lens holder and with alternating movements, in and out of the tinting bath, give the lenses a progressive absorption of the tint. Check the desired shade from time to time. COLOUR CORRECTION

AFTER TINTING Remove the lens and rinse it to remove any colour residue. The hot lens scratches easily and must not be crushed to avoid deformation and/or tension. Dry the lens with a soft cloth: MACROCLEAN® high-tech microfiber is recommended. In any case, avoid using paper tissues.
CHECK UV TRANSMITTANCE The UV & Visible Spectrotester (Ref. 05053) is ideal to test the UV and the visible transmittance of a lens after tinting.
