TINTING
CLEANLINESS Make sure that the pots are perfectly clean and do not have any colour deposit. PREPARING THE TINT: POWDER DYES Fill the pot with 1 litre of distilled water. Heat up to 60° C (140° F) then add the dye powder. Stir the mixture until the dye has completely dissolved. Shake the bottle well and add it into the pot. We suggest to add some distilled water in the bottle and flush it then add it again to the pot. Avoid any deposits on the bottom of the pot as they affects the percentage of colour composition and therefore the tone.
WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO USE DISTILLED WATER Limestone, chlorine and water impurities make the colour less stable and can cause halos on the lens. WHY YOU SHOULD NOT POUR DYE INTO COLD WATER The colour does not dissolve homogeneously and settles on the bottom. If the container is on an electric plate or in direct contact with the flame, the higher temperature at the bottom causes the dye to crystallize. The colour is affected. WHY YOU SHOUL NOT POUR DYE INTO WATER OVER 90°C (194° F) The dye added at such a high temperature may crystallize and does not mix homogeneously. The colour is affected. ADVANTAGES OF MIXING THE COLOUR AT 60°C (140° F) The colour mixes homogeneously and gradually reaches 92°-95°C for CR39 or 80°-85°C for Polycarbonate. Mixing and stirring the dyes at 60° C for 10-15 minutes makes them very stable and ensures a homogenous colour mix.
HEATING Slowly heat the solution for about 20 minutes until it reaches 92°-95°C for CR39 or 80°-85°C for Polycarbonate. Do not heat in direct contact with the flame because it creates a very high temperature at the bottom of the pot and the ions crystallize, affecting the colour. During tinting water evaporates. It is advisable to make small and frequent top-ups with distilled water of the same temperature as the pot. DO NOT HEAT QUICKLY With rapid heating, the ions of the dyes do not dissolve completely and can crystallize, changing the shade of the colour and decreasing its duration. WHY SMALL AND FREQUENT TOP UP To always maintain the same level of the tinting bath and prevent the colour from evaporating as well.
Excessive topping up cools the tinting bath lengthening the colouring times and changing the shades.
When correcting colours, never immerse the lens holder with the lens in the corrective bath without having first rinsed everything in a container of hot water.
This is to avoid polluting the colours with dye residues from another colour.
